# API documentation

An API represents the communication capacity between components of one or several software systems and is a set of functions, methods and / or procedures that a library offers that can be accessed through a unique and private key (API KEY) for each client.

### Operation types and methods

An operation is a unit of a REST API that you can call. An operation comprises an HTTP verb and a URL path that is subordinate to the context of the API.

```
The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.
